DEGREE OPTIONS/FUTURE ACADEMIC PATHS

Graduates are awarded a B.A. in major. Because of its emphasis on writing and critical thinking skills, the B.A. in English has proven to be a valuable degree for students who go on to pursue advanced degrees in law, medicine, library sciences, journalism, theology, education, and business.

Program strengths in Western American literature mean that you can earn a minor in Western American Studies along with your BA. The department offers funded opportunities for professional development in areas related to the American West and Southwest and American regionalism. These opportunities exist also for the MA program, which offers an emphasis on Western American Studies.

The English Department also offers certificates in Technical Communication and Creative Writing.
