Professional Profile

Dr. Takacs joined the faculty at WTAMU in 2002. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from West Chester University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Music degree from Bowling Green State University, and a Doctor of Music degree from Florida State University. Teaching and Related Service Dr. Takacs teaches undergraduate and graduate applied trumpet and is the director of the WTAMU Trumpet Ensemble, which has had success competing on the national level at the National Trumpet Competition.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Takacs has been the principal trumpet of the Amarillo Symphony Orchestra since 2002, performing as a soloist with them twice, on Edward Gregson’s Trumpet Concerto in 2006, and Aaron Copland’s Quiet City in 2010. He also serves as principal trumpet of Amarillo Opera and Chamber Music Amarillo, and frequently performs in the pit orchestra of the Amarillo Little Theatre. He is also a member of the WTAMU Faculty Brass Quintet. Dr. Takacs serves as a new music and book reviewer for the International Trumpet Guild Journal and as a judge for the National Trumpet Competition. He is a performing artist for Bach Trumpets, a division of the Conn-Selmer Instrument Company.

Research and Creative Activity

Originally from Philadelphia, Dr. Takacs now calls Amarillo home, where he lives with his wife Karen, an elementary music teacher and oboist with the Amarillo Symphony, and their two sons, Liam and Marshall.
