"When I was a senior at high school, we had a college fair where all the universities of Texas went to my high school. My first option wasn’t WT; I had planned to attend UTEP to be closer to my family and friends. When I was about to leave the college fair, the recruiter from WT smiled at me and asked me if I had heard about WT before. Then, he started telling me about how helpful the professors and faculty were. He saw the flyers from UTEP that I was holding and mentioned that one thing that makes WT different from all the other universities is that WT feels more like a community; it can be a home away from home. I wrote my name and email in the sign-up sheet. After a couple of days, I applied to WT and early in March I was accepted. Choosing to come to WT has been one of the best decisions I have made, the relationships and experiences with others attending WT have helped me to better understand my strengths, weaknesses, and comfort zone."

"I attended five colleges before settling in at WTAMU. Most of my movement was due to life circumstances but also because I never found the right fit with a college. I have never felt quite so taken care of at a college until being at WTAMU.

Starting at a new college as a transfer student can be difficult. Transitioning and adapting to the style of a new college can be challenging. WTAMU’s student population has many transfer students, so the faculty takes extra care to acknowledge that there can sometimes be a gap between students' previous schools and WT. Many of the faculty that I have briefly met remember my name and say hello to me in the hallways. This shows how much that they care and want to get to know the students. My advisor and accounting professor have also worked hard to help me find internships and make connections with professionals in my future career field."

"I chose to transfer to WTAMU after I spent my freshman year at a community college in Colorado because I was ready to step out of my comfort zone and WTAMU provided me an opportunity to do just that without being overwhelming.

My transfer to WTAMU was easy and simple and seemed like a no-brainer. I have always enjoyed smaller schools that allow more personal connection between professors and students. I have had some amazing professors that I am grateful to have learned from. The university is a great size, and the campus is beautiful. I also enjoy how connected the community of Canyon is with the university. The professors always try to find new ways to get university students connected with each other and the community, which goes to show how much they care about our development, not just as students, but as people."
