PE-6(3) Video Surveillance

Statement

WTAMU monitors physical access to facilities where information systems reside includign through the use of video surveillance to detect and respond to physical security incidents, based on risk management decisions.

Applicability

This Control applies to all West Texas A&M locations that house information systems (e.g., data centers, server rooms, networking/telecom closets) considered mission critical or require a higher level of security due to the nature of equipment or data the equipment stores. 

Implementation

  • WTAMU shall employ video surveillance of all data centers, server rooms, networking/telecom closets.
  • The University Police Department shall provide active monitoring of all campus video surveillance. IT shall maintain access to review footage of appropriate locations (data centers, server rooms, networking/telecom closets).
  • Audio-video surveillance technology for monitoring physical access to information systems shall be used responsibly and within the intended scop of the purpose for such deployement, and transparent process and controls shall be implemented for the use of such technology and resulting recorded material.
  • Video surveillance recordings shall be kept long enough to perform reviews of activity.
