Statement

West Texas A&M University information system must use standardized clocks to generate time stamps for audit records to facilitate logging and monitoring.

Applicability

This Control applies to all West Texas A&M network information resources. The intended audience for this Control includes all information resource owners, custodians, and users of information resources.

Implementation

Information resource custodians are responsible for:

Configuring information resources to use internal system clocks to generate time stamps, including date and time, for audit records. Where possible internal clocks shall be synchronized to a centralized NTP server managed by IT.
Recording time stamps for audit records that can be mapped to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) or Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) within an acceptable degree of accuracy.
