Major Description

The new economy has brought with it the need for professionals who understand all of the nuances of corporate finance. In an extremely volatile economic environment, along with social demands for ethical decision making and sustainability, corporations have never had so many demands placed on them for responsible fiscal management.

And that’s why the job market for finance graduates is so strong.  Balancing all of these demands is no small task, and those who choose this path will be called upon to demonstrate their command of mathematics, statistical analysis, and technology, all the while doing so in an ethically responsible way. Critical thinking, say hello to problem solving skills.

Along the way, you’ll be immersed in the fundamentals, including cash flows, capital budgeting, cost of capital, investments, business valuation, mergers and acquisitions, risk management, and payout policies. It’s no small task, but these are the demands place upon modern financiers.

At the international level, you’ll learn about how monetary and macroeconomic policy affect corporate relations, along with exchange rates, foreign direct investment, balance of payments, and all the other factors you hear on the evening news. Blend in political differences and the prospects for global conflict, and the need for competent financial analysts has never been higher.

Because this isn’t your grandfather’s economy anymore. It takes special people with special skills to captain this ship, and our finance major will prepare you to take the helm.
