Upward Bound Math-Science
Upward Bound Math-Science is a FREE federally funded program that inspires, motivates, and provides development of fundamental skills, academic enrichment experiences, and exploratory opportunities (especially within STEM areas) for student participants to be successful in their admissions process, educational persistence, and completion of a post-secondary education program.

Mission

The mission of the Upward Bound Math-Science project at West Texas A&M University is to identify and select first-generation, low-income students from target high schools who have high potential and interest in pursuing a post-secondary degree within the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and provide free academic supports, opportunities, and experiences to ensure optimal development and success of each participant so as to establish a strong trajectory towards completion of a post-secondary degree program in a STEM field within six years after high school graduation.

Upward Bound Math-Science is a FREE federally funded program that inspires, motivates, and provides development of fundamental skills, academic enrichment experiences, and exploratory opportunities (especially within STEM areas) for student participants to be successful in their admissions process, educational persistence, and completion of a post-secondary education program.

 

Services Offered

Upward Bound Math-Science offers the following services to program participants:

  • Rigorous academic skills development through class instruction and tutoring
  • Student advising and exposure to STEM
  • Career and college major exploration, specifically within STEM fields
  • Financial Literacy workshops and activities
  • College entrance exam preparation
  • Assistance in accessing financial aid opportunities via the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and scholarships
  • Development of interpersonal and life skills
  • Parent/Family engagement via workshops and resources surrounding financial literacy, preparing to have a child in college, general information about attending college, etc.
