Professional Profile

Dr. Min Wha Han joined the Department of Communication in Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities in 2021. She received a B.A. in English from Tsuda University, Japan in 2002, an M.A. in Communication from the University of Maine in 2004, and a Ph.D. in Communication from Ohio University in 2009. Prior to WTAMU, Dr. Han has also worked as a research director for a non-profit organization and as a translator, other than teaching communication courses at multiple universities.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Han’s teaching areas include rhetorical theories and criticism, persuasion, public speaking, interpersonal and intercultural Communication. She also has previously taught small group communication, professional communication, communication theory, and qualitative research methods.

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Min Wha Han’s research interests are at the intersection of rhetoric and public culture. Dr. Han specializes in contemporary rhetorical theories and critical rhetorical criticism, qualitative research methods, postcolonial and diaspora studies. Her research topics include collective memories and identities among Korean diasporic communities across the world, Hallyu or Korean wave, Japan-Korea and inter-Korean (North-South) relations. Dr. Han has published in various peer-reviewed journals, such as Communication Theory, the International Communication Gazette, the Review of Communication, Keio Communication Review, Language and Intercultural Communication, and International Journal of Cultural Studies. Her recent co-edited book titled, Korean Diasporas across the World: Homeland in History, Memory, Imagination, Media, and Reality (2020, Lexington Press), has won an outstanding book award from the Asian/Pacific American Communication Studies Division of the National Communication Association.
