Accounting (M.P.A.)

College of Business

  • Admittance to the WTAMU Graduate School
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended
  • Overall undergraduate GPA ≥ 3.00
  • GMAT scores in the 50th percentile or higher in one or more testing areas
    (math, verbal, or analytical) 
    Applicants with an undergraduate overall GPA ≥ 3.0 and a GPA for accounting courses
    above principles

Conditional Admission 
All students are conditionally admitted for the first six (6) hours and may complete the admissions
process while enrolled in these hours. However, students must submit all official undergraduate
transcripts to the graduate school before being granted conditional admittance status.

Criminal Justice Studies (M.A.)

  • Undergraduate grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher
  • Submit Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores of at least the following:*
    • Verbal Reasoning: 145
    • Quantitative Reasoning: 150
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation using the Recommendation Form
  • A letter of intent describing your interest in engineering and what you hope to get out
    of this program
  • Students will also participate in an interview process with the Engineering Graduate
    Advisory Committee (EGAC)

* Please note that waivers are available for applicants who have at least five (5) years of
experience or applicants that have previously completed a master's degree. If you are
requesting a waiver of GRE scores based on a previous master's degree or industry experience, fill
out the GRE Waiver Form and return it using the given instructions. If you are claiming an exemption
based on industry experience, please forward your resume to ECS@wtamu.edu along with the
exemption form.

Engineering Technology (M.S.)

  • Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.25 to remain eligible for scholarships and/or graduate assistantship

NOTE: Applicants who have not graduated with a bachelor's degree in history from a program
that includes an historical methods and/or senior seminar course(s) will be required to demonstrate critical reading, interpretive and writing skills by submitting a two to three (2-3) page typed
essay over a topic provided by the history graduate adviser

  • Complete Graduate Nursing Program Application
  • Verification of an active, unrestricted RN license in Texas
  • Overall undergraduate GPA ≥ 3.0 with no grade below "C" for the last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework
  • Verification of current CPR certification and required immunizations, including Hepatitis B 
  • Contact information for two (2) (non-academic) clinical supervisory references
    • This must be accomplished in a timely manner, so that responses from references can be included in the Committee's consideration
  • A written goal statement that will be evaluated based on:
    • Clear focus related to a goal statement
    • Supportive detail regarding the goal statement
    • Organization of goal statement (clear introduction, body and conclusion)
    • Clarity, grammar and punctuation
    • Goal statement is typed with a word count of between 500-750 words
  • Phone interview with the Associate Department head for Nursing Graduate Programs or a designee once application paperwork is complete
  • For the Family Nurse Practitioner role, prospective students must have verification of at least two years of recent clinical practice as an RN

* Due to the number of online classes required for the M.S.N., this program is not available to international students studying on a student visa.

Psychology (M.A.)

College of Education and Social Sciences

  • Writing sample (academic paper, term paper, publication, or other demonstration of writing ability)
  • GRE Scores:
    • GRE verbal score not below the 50th percentile
    • GRE quantitative score not below the 25th percentile
    • GRE analytical score is 4.0 or above
  • Students that do not qualify for full admission may be granted conditional admission,
    on a limited basis, when the applicant has an undergraduate GPA or GRE scores
    below those stated for full admission, based on a full review of other application material.

Reading (M.Ed.)

School Counseling (M.Ed.)

School Psychology (S.S.P.)

  • Bachelor’s degree in psychology or substantial equivalent
  • Overall undergraduate GPA ≥ 3.0 or ≥ 3.0 in last 60 hours in undergraduate coursework

    • GRE analytical score is 4.0 or above

  • No criminal convictions other than minor traffic violations (this is a requirement for licensure)

Social Work (M.S.S.W.)

Advanced Standing:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accredited program within the last six (6) years
  •  GPA ≥ 3.0 in social work classes, demonstrated by the SOCW prefix or applicable social work prefix from another CSWE-accredited institution (Please note: YOU must figure your GPA and include that in your essay, see link below for more information on the Admission Essary.)
    - The Admissions Committee will consider applicants with a GPA between 2.7 and 3.0
  • Admission essay
  • Two letters of recommendation using the required form
  • New students admitted only in the fall semester

General Standing:
All students with a degree other than social work may apply to the Foundation program by following these steps:

  • Admittance to the WTAMU Graduate School
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended
  • Degree from an accredited program
  • Overall undergraduate GPA ≥ 3.0 or  3.0 in the last sixty (60) hours of undergraduate 
    - The Admissions Committee will consider applicants with a GPA between 2.7 and 3.0

Studio Art (M.F.A.)

Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities

  • Submit a one-page letter of intent or a one-page artistic statement
  • Submit portfolio or a collection of 20 images
  • Interview with the major professor of the prospective student’s intended studio
  • Students should not apply to the M.F.A. program in studio art unless they have completed a minimum of thirty-six (36) undergraduate hours in art at an accredited institution
    • Applicants who do not meet this requirement should contact an undergraduate adviser for information on an undergraduate degree in art
