Submission Tab

Max Attempts: This is a drop-down box. The default is 1. Unlimited is above 1, but you can set it to whatever you want. I usually set a quiz to three attempts. It's the first one that counts in my classes, but there are computer glitches, network interruptions, etc. that will allow the student to try two more times without having to wake me up at 2 a.m. If a computer crash happens, the quiz will show up as a zero or will get hung up in Items Pending. When you view the grades, you can sort by User and that's a quick way to see if students had to take the quiz multiple times. But we're way ahead of ourselves.
Validation: The choices are "Warn about incomplete items," "Do not allow incomplete items," and "Do not check for incomplete items." This is a tough call. If you have a 50-question quiz and the setting is "Do not allow incomplete items," the student who accidentally began the quiz when s/he didn't want to, is going to have to dismiss 50 pop-up windows to get out. If the setting is "Do not allow incomplete items" under the same circumstances, the student is going to have to do the whole test; there's no other escape except to click the back button, let the time to expire, and let Angel take the quiz. I generally use the "Do not check for incomplete items" and hope that the student will double-check his/her work before clicking the Submit button.
Auto-Save: The default is Disabled, but if you want Angel to save work, there are choices in 5-minute increments.
Do not allow users to save and finish later: If you agree, click this button. If you want to allow students to save their work periodically, then leave this box unchecked. When the student is taking the test, there will be a Save button to the right of the Submit button. If the student clicks "Save," the options are "Continue" or "Finish Later." Warning: If the test is timed, the clock continues to run!
Make submissions anonymous: DON'T EVER CHECK THIS BOX UNLESS YOU WANT TO LEARN A VALUABLE LESSON FOR YOURSELF! If you check this box, you won't know who submitted the quiz. However, if you're conducting a survey of T/F questions, such as My teacher is handsome, My teacher is an incredible speaker, My teacher is the smartest person ever, an anonymous submission might be OK. If that's the case, I'd leave "No banner" in the Content tab unchecked so that students can see that it's going to be anonymous and that you're not trying to trick them to find out who doesn't thinks you're handsome. You won't know who submitted the quiz and the students will not be able to review their answers.

Let's go to the Review tab or back to the Index page before I compulsively click the "Make submissions anonymous" box. Satan is tempting me!
