WTAMU Named a Top Hispanic-Service School


CANYON, Texas—Best Value Schools, a new ranking of Hispanic-serving Texas colleges, has named West Texas A&M University one of 10 Best Value Hispanic-Serving Colleges and Universities in Texas for 2018. Out of nearly 50 eligible colleges and universities, West Texas A&M earned the 10th spot for its attention to the challenges faced by Hispanic college students.

Most notably, WTAMU is officially recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HIS) by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). The designation of HIS is only granted to institutions of higher learning that provide outstanding contributions to the education of Hispanic students. In addition to West Texas A&M University, HACU represents around 500 other Hispanic-serving colleges and universities across the United States as well as Puerto Rico, Latin America and Spain.

The list of 10 Best Value Hispanic-Serving Colleges and Universities in Texas 2018 was compiled by the staff of Best Value Schools, which is an online reference tool for better value in higher education. The search began with an initial pool of 49 Hispanic-serving candidate schools. Number-based values were assigned to each school based on the net price of tuition and a 20-year expected return on investment, as well as other significant factors. Ultimately, the candidates were winnowed to just 10 top Hispanic-serving universities and colleges in Texas.
