University's ACS Chapter Receives Award

CANYON, Texas—For the fourth consecutive year, the student affiliate chapter of the American Chemical Society at West Texas A&M University has received an Honorable Mention award by the American Chemical Society.

This award recognizes WT for its activities during the 2018-2019 academic year, which included demonstrations at the Don Harrington Discovery Center during National Chemistry Week, activities for Earth Day, an evening at the Activities Center, and a fundraiser for Valentine’s Day as well as hosting a talk on environmental chemistry.

“Our officers continue to impress us with their dedication to chemistry as well as WT. This award is recognition for their hard work and time that they put into the Chapter,” Dr. Nick Flynn, chapter advisor and biochemistry professor, said.

The awards are classified as outstanding, commendable and honorable mention. Chapters that do not qualify for one of these designations receive a certificate of achievement for meritorious service.

Students interested in joining the group or learning more about the American Chemical Society are encouraged to contact Flynn at 806-651-2542 or nflynn@wtamu.edu.

The group meets at 12:30 p.m. every first and third Tuesday of the month in Room 103 of the Agriculture and Natural Sciences Building.
