CANYON, Texas—West Texas A&M University’s Department of Communication was recognized as one of the top places to study public relations across the United States. According to, WTAMU’s public relations program was selected based on career and educational resources, faculty, job placement and more.

“It’s an honor to be recognized,” Dr. Emily Kinsky, associate professor, said. “We are thrilled to provide more and more opportunities for students interested in PR at WT.”

Students can get firsthand, real-world experience with 1910 PR, a student-run public relations firm that provides clients with digital media management, content creation and event planning services. The firm was recognized by the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) as a Nationally Affiliated firm in July.

Other experiential opportunities in the major include campaign work as part of the Bateman Team or the National Student Advertising Competition team. Both contests allow students to compete against other university programs around the country and to do work for national clients.

Throughout their undergraduate years at WTAMU, students are given many opportunities to build leadership and public relations skills in the public relations/advertising/applied communication major. As part of the media communication program, students learn about research, theory, ethics, law, media production and writing.

WTAMU students in PR are required to complete an internship, which provides them with an opportunity to have real-world experience in the field. During their last semester, students create a portfolio website that showcases their skills acquired in the program.

As the home of the PR program, the Department of Communication is accredited at both the undergraduate and graduate level by the American Communication Association. Learn more about why WTAMU was selected at
