Affessi Named USTFCCCA Female Field Athlete of the Year

NEW ORLEANS, La. – West Texas A&M's Fatim Affessi was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Outdoor Female Field Athlete of the Year announced on Wednesday afternoon. 

The Geneva, Switzerland native becomes the first Lady Buff to earn the honor outdoors after scoring 18 points for the Lady Buffs at the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships last week in Kingsville, Texas where WT finished on the podium for the third time in the past four years. She opened the championships with her third consecutive long jump title with a mark of 20-7.25 (6.28m) followed up by a runner-up finish in the triple jump with a leap of 42-8.75 (13.02m) after entering the final in eighth place. 

The junior was also impressive for WT at the Lone Star Conference Championships scoring 20 points with wins in the long and triple jump. She won both events on her final attempt including a mark of 19-4 (5.89m) in the long jump and 41-2.5 (12.56m) in the triple jump. 

During the indoor season, she was also named the USTFCCCA Indoor Female Field Athlete of the Year for the second straight year after scoring 14 points at the indoor championships in Pittsburg, Kan.
