Success Stories

Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award. Mr. Rick Haasl, instructor of sports and exercise sciences, is the recipient of the 2009 Chancellor’s Teaching Excellence Award. This award is given to individuals that exemplify quality classroom instruction, a student-centered approach to teaching, and command of the subject matter.

College of Nursing and Health Sciences Teaching Excellence Award. Dr. Charles Chase, associate professor of sports and exercise sciences, is the recipient of the 2009 College of Nursing and Health Sciences Teaching Excellence Award. This award recognizes faculty for the contributions to student learning.
 
University Teaching Excellence Award. Dr. John Lubker, associate professor of sports and exercise sciences, is the 2008 recipient of University Teaching Excellence Award. This award recognizes faculty for outstanding innovations to student success and learning.
 
University Excellence Award. Lorna Strong, instructor of sports and exercise sciences and director of the Athletic Training Education Program, is the 2008 recipient of the WTAMU Alumni Association University Excellence Award. This award recognizes one for contributions to the University through teaching and service.
 

National Service Award. Lorna Strong, instructor of sports and exercise sciences and director of the Athletic Training Education Program, is the recipient of an Athletic Trainer Service Award from the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA). The national award recognizes NATA members for their contributions to the athletic training profession and the association through local, state, district and national service.

Full Accreditation. The Athletic Training Education Program at West Texas A&M University received full accreditation in 2006–2007 from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs.  The initial accreditation for one of the University’s youngest programs (begun in 2004) was recommended by the Joint Review Committee on Educational Programs in Athletic Training and enables students in the program to take exams that lead to national certification. The accrediting agency for the program is now the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE).
