Application and Admission Steps

Graduate School Application Process

The Graduate School is committed to promoting graduate study at West Texas A&M University. Our Graduate School academic advisors serve as liaisons for all prospective graduate students. We are happy to assist you with any questions that you may have, so feel free to contact us.

Prepare Graduate School Application Materials

Some admission requirements apply to all graduate applicants, but often, there are program specific requirements that you must also submit. For International applicants:

Apply to WTAMU Graduate School

In response to family hardships of COVID 19, WTAMU is waiving the application fee through May 31, 2020. WT graduate students may also be eligible to receive federal need-based aid and are encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). To see if you qualify, visit studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.

Once you have prepared your application materials, you should submit your online graduate school application and application materials. If at any time you have questions concerning the application process or submission of materials, please contact us.

Await Your Graduate School Admissions Decision

After you have submitted your graduate school application, you will receive an acknowledgement email with your Buffalo Gold Card Number. This number will serve as your student identification number. You will receive both email and letter correspondence detailing any missing documentation required to complete your application.

After you have submitted all of your admissions documents, we will send your application to the program for review. Please await your admissions decision, but feel free to check your application status with us. For most programs, the wait time after your application is submitted for review is approximately three weeks, but this can vary depending on the program.

Submit the Graduate School Application

First, you should complete and submit your application to the Graduate School. To do so, you should complete only one of the following applications:

The Texas Common Application (Choose to apply using the Grad U.S. application) 
- or -
The WTAMU Graduate School Application

NOTE: International applicants should apply to Graduate School through the International Student Office

  • Applications for graduate admissions require a non-refundable application fee ($40)
  • Applications for International admissions require a non-refundable application fee ($90)

Submit Transcripts

To complete your application package, official transcripts are needed from every post-secondary institution you have attended. Applicants must hold a bachelor or masters degree from a regionally accredited institution. Contact the previous institutions you have attended and have them mail your official transcripts to:

Unofficial documents may be emailed to the Graduate School.

Transcripts must be mailed or emailed via a transcript clearinghouse from the respective schools to the Graduate School. Opened transcripts or scanned transcripts sent by the student are considered unofficial.

Permanent residents and domestic students who have attended foreign institutions will need to submit a Foreign Credential Evaluation through one of our six approved foreign credential evaluators.

Submit Program Admissions Documents

To complete your admissions package, you will need to send in any remaining documents as specified by the program to which you are applying.
