Major in Sports and Exercise Sciences (Major Code: 5449)

 

The Department of Sports and Exercise Sciences graduate program offers a Master of Science degree with specific tracks in Exercise Science and Sport Management. The Sport Management track is transition to an fully online program. The thesis and non-thesis option is available in each track. These programs provide students academic preparation for goals ranging from career employment to doctoral studies. Areas of focus available include  sport administration, sport management , sport performance analysis, corporate fitness and wellness, and physiological testing and prescription. Each track includes a required department four course core, and track specific required coursework.

 

Graduate Program Admission Requirements

  • WTAMU Graduate School application
  • Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions attended
  • Overall undergraduate GPA ≥ 3.0
    • 2.5 GPA and Sports and Exercise Science Graduate committee approval for probationary admission
  • Current Resume
  • Letter of intent addressing your interest in the program, your academic and professional goals, and giving identity to the program focus of your choice. One page minimum required.
  • Upload all documents to the applicant portal

SES 6311 - Research Techniques
SES 6327 - Sociological Analysis of Sport
SES 6331 - Ethical Issues in Sport and Exercise Sciences
SES 6351 - Trends/Issues in Sports and Exercise Sciences
 

Exercise Science Emphasis  (Thesis / Non-Thesis Option)

Additional 24 semester hours in 6300-level or above courses which must include SES 6321 - Sports Psychology, 6330 - Leadership in Sport Administration, 6341 - Advanced Exercise Physiology, 6344 - Sport and Exercise Biomechanics, 6356 - Advanced Strength Training and Conditioning,  and 6397 - Inquiry in Exercise Science.  Students will also be required to pass departmental required comprehensive examination.  Students electing to complete the thesis option will be required to successfully complete the departmental comprehensive examination as well as thesis proposal and defense.
 

Sport Management Emphasis (Thesis / Non-Thesis Option)

Additional 24 semester hours in 6300-level or above courses which must include SES 6321 - Sports Psychology, 6323 - Sport Marketing, 6329 - Facility Operations and Event Management, 6330 - Leadership in Sport Management, 6332 - Legal Aspects, and 6398 - Internship in Sport Management.  Students will also be required to pass departmental required comprehensive examination.  Students electing to complete the thesis option will be required to successfully complete the departmental comprehensive examination as well as thesis proposal and defense.
 

Post Admission Requirements

Once admitted to the program, the student must maintain a grade of at least a B in all courses. A grade of C in any course requires a retake of that course.
