Kahler is an active member of the American Music Therapy Association. He attends and presents at both national and regional conferences. He currently serves as president of the Southwestern Region of the American Music Therapy Association.
Kahler has been a music therapy clinician for more that 20 years working with a wide range of client populations. He has worked with children with mental retardation, children with various sensory and physical impairments, adolescent and geriatric psychiatric patients, and individuals with dementia. He also has worked with patients suffering from stroke, head injury, chronic pain, spinal cord injury, and other orthopedic conditions.
He received an undergraduate degree in both music education and music therapy from the University of Georgia, a master's degree in music therapy from Texas Woman's University, and a Ph.D. in music education with an emphasis in music therapy from The University of Kansas.
