About the Master of Arts in Teaching Degree

The online Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) program is designed for individuals who want to pursue a master's degree and have the option to earn teacher certification. This program is ideal for those who wish to move into administration or positions of leadership in the education setting.

Students have two pathways in the MAT:

  • Path I - Master's Degree with Teacher Certification
  • Path II - Master's Degree (without Teacher Certification)

Degree Requirements & Resources

30-36 credit hours

Graduation Requirements

Path I - Master's Degree with Teacher Certification

  • Completion of professional development/certification course work, required testing, and supervised clinical experience.
  • Issuance of a 5-Year Standard Texas Eduator Certificate prior to administration of the comprehensive exam.
  • Pass a written comprehensive exam.

Path II - Master's Degree (without Teacher Certification)

  • Completion of all required coursework.
  • Pass a written comprehensive exam.

Program Admissions

Application deadlines:

  • August 1 for Fall admission
  • December 1 for Spring admission
  • May 1 for Summer admission
