Professional Profile

Dr. Watkins joined the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business in 2019 after earning a Ph.D. in Organizational Behavior from the University of Washington. He received an MBA degree and a B.S. in Human Resource Management from Utah State University in 2011 and 2008, respectively. Prior to academia, Dr. Watkins spent seven years as a Human Resource Professional in the financial services and manufacturing industries.

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Watkins teaches courses within the area of organizational behavior focused on topics such as leadership, motivation, and employee well-being.

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Watkins is currently researching topics related to employee well-being, positive event disclosures, and health and wellness behaviors. He ultimately posits that employees will be more successful in the long-term when they work a bit less and instead dedicate more time to cultivating their health and relationships. His work has appeared in the Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, Personnel Psychology, and Journal of Management.

Dr. Watkins proudly lives in Canyon, Texas with his beautiful wife and energetic children. In his free time, he enjoys running, cycling, and engaging with his family.
