Professional Profile

Dr. Hammer joined the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business in 2014. ­She earned her B.B.A. in 2006, M.B.A. in 2007, and Ph.D. in 2014 from Texas Tech University. ­She is certified as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR).

Teaching and Related Service

Dr. Emily Hammer earned her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with an Emphasis in the study of business. Dr. Hammer is a current member of both the Panhandle Human Resources Association and the Society of Human Resource Management. As a Clinical Assistant Professor with the Paul & Virginia Engler College of Business, her teaching specializes in compensation, human resource management, and international human resource management. Her favorite part of her job is showcasing how human resources applies to everyone.

Dr. Hammer teaches Critical Issues in Human Resource Management, International Human Resource Management and Compensation Administration. Her background includes working for two Fortune 500 companies and a large, research university as an organization manager. Dr. Hammer possesses a unique perspective on how to efficiently and effectively operate organizations. Her management philosophy centers on teamwork, being deliberate, and professional development.

Research and Creative Activity

Dr. Hammer’s research interests include student success, performance management, human resource management and human resource development. Her publications include The CASE Journal, Management Teaching Review, and International Journal of Management Education. She holds memberships in the Society for Human Resource Management,  Panhandle Human Resources Association, and the Academy of Management.

Personal Sketch

Dr. Hammer has two children, two dogs and a husband who owns his own business in counseling those battling chemical dependency in Amarillo. As a West Texas Native, she is grateful to be back home and working in the community that has had such a strong influence over everything she does. In Dr. Hammer’s spare time, she does HR consulting in the Amarillo community.
