COVID-19 Modified Work Schedules

Effective Monday, March 23, 2020

Effective immediately, our work schedules and social distancing policies will be consistent with local guidelines, coordinated with The Texas A&M University System, and following the state of Texas directives.

Therefore, beginning Monday, March 23, 2020:

  1. West Texas A&M University will remain open in support of our students, mission and communities until further notice.
  2. No meeting of more than 10 people will be allowed on campus. If a meeting of more than 10 people is needed, please use technology-based solutions.
  3. All vice presidents will configure modified work assignments for their respective areas for the foreseeable future. The current University plan is to reduce staff exposure by 50 percent while remaining operational. In order to achieve this goal, our schedules will be configured as follows:

Staff in each responsibility area will be divided into two equal teams, A and B, and will divide their work between on campus and remote presence on a rotating cycle. The first week, Team A will work M/W/F on campus and T/Th remotely, while Team B works M/W/F remotely and T/Th on campus. The next week, Team A and B alternate. Over two weeks each employee will work an equal number of days on campus and remotely. This schedule will remain in place until further notice. For employees whose jobs do not allow working remotely, please work with your direct supervisor and vice president on alternative work duties that can be performed remotely. NOTE: Anyone who feels ill should not come to work under any circumstances. Your direct supervisor will be in contact to make team and schedule assignments.
  4. It is the responsibility of each team working on campus to thoroughly clean common areas with antibacterial wipes before departing for the day. We are short on both antibacterial wipes and hand sanitizers. We will do our best to provide both. SSC will continue nightly cleaning and disinfecting. If extra cleaning is required in an area with increased traffic, please contact Stan Pena.
  5. To the greatest extent possible, work assignments will be made in conjunction with employee home and family needs. We recognize that with area schools currently closed, childcare, and related family responsibilities will create significant challenges. WT will do all within its power to respond to individual circumstances. Please work directly with your supervisor and vice president to process these requests.
  6. To all employees, especially but not limited to public-facing employees, please maintain social distances and courtesy and patience with all who come calling. The unknowns of these circumstances occasionally create discourtesy and impatience. Do all in your power to dispel those feelings and respond with kind, professional patience.

The leadership of WT appreciates your understanding and cooperation as we continue to serve safely and appropriately. Questions regarding these measures should be directed to your immediate supervisor and/or vice president.

We recognize the decisions made now are subject to change without notice given the rapidly changing state, national, and international responses to the pandemic. Public health and safety will continue to be our top priority, followed by our teaching and learning mission.
