Paul Engler College of Agricultural and Natural Sciences – graduates will line up on the north side (Russell Long BLVD)  in FUBC

College of Nursing and Health Sciences – graduates will line up on north side (Russell Long BLVD) in FUBC

Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanitiesgraduates will line up on south side (4th street) in FUBC

 

2 p.m. Commencement

 

Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business – graduates will line up on north side (Russell Long BLVD) in FUBC

School of Engineering, Computer Science and Mathematics – graduates will line up on the north side (Russell Long BLVD) in FUBC

College of Education and Social Sciences – graduates will line up on south side (4th street) in FUBC

 

All candidates for graduation should arrive 45 minutes before the start of commencement.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Tickets are not required for guests for the ceremonies.
  • Parking is free; handicap parking is available. Early arrival is encouraged.
  • Sign-language interpreters will be available for guests seated in Section 102.
  • Live streaming of the commencement will be available.

INFORMATION FOR GRADUATES

Processional

  • Doctoral and masters’ candidates carry hoods on left arm rather than wear them.
  • Baccalaureate candidates enter ceremony with tassels on right side of mortar board.
  • All candidates hold name cards visible for faculty marshals and proceed to chairs as directed. The first candidate in each college will start a new row. STAND until Dr. Shaffer asks you to be seated.

Conferring of Degrees (doctoral first, masters’ second, bachelors’ third)

  • DOCTORAL CANDIDATES: Rise as Dr. Shaffer requests; he will ask Dr. Wendler to confer; Dr. Castillo will invite the candidates forward. The marshals will lead the degree candidates and major professors forward to the stage. Each graduate will be hooded: doctoral candidates by his/her major professor; masters’ candidates by his/her dean. Dr. Castillo will be standing at the microphone. Hand name card to Dr. Castillo at the podium; walk and hand hood to professor (doctoral) or dean (masters’); receive diploma cover from Dr. Wendler; shake hands with dean and provost and return to your chair. When last graduate returns to chair, Dr. Shaffer will invite applause.
  • MASTERS’ CANDIDATES: Rise as Dr. Shaffer requests; he will ask Dr. Wendler to confer; Dr. Castillo will invite your college forward. The marshals will lead the degree candidates forward to the stage. Dr. Castillo will be standing at the microphone. Hand name card to Dr. Castillo at the podium; walk and hand hood to dean who will hood each master; receive diploma cover from Dr. Wendler; shake hands with the provost and return to your chair. When last master returns to chair, Dr. Shaffer will invite applause.
  • BACHELORS’ CANDIDATES: Rise as Dr. Shaffer requests; he will ask Dr. Wendler to confer; your dean will invite you forward. The marshals will lead the degree candidates forward to the stage. Dr. Castillo will be standing at the microphone. Hand the name card to Dr. Castillo at the podium; walk and receive diploma cover from Dr. Wendler; shake hands with the dean and provost and return to your chair. Remain standing until you are asked to be seated. When last baccalaureate returns to chair Dr. Shaffer will invite applause.

Recessional

  • Everyone stands for the Alma Mater (words in program).
  • When recessional music begins, marshals will direct the students to recess down the center aisle and out of the building.
