All candidates for graduation should try to arrive 45 minutes before the start of commencement

Graduation caps, gowns and accessories are available for purchase at the WT Bookstore.

Instructions for the Commencement Ceremony

Location: First United Bank Center
Date: Friday, August 17, 2018

Time - 10:00 ANS, ECSM, ESS
            2:00 COB, FAH, NHS

The December Commencement ceremony will be held at 10:00 and 2:00

NOTE: Tickets are not required for guests for the ceremonies. Handicap parking is available and parking is free. Early arrival is encouraged.

NOTE: Live streaming of the August Commencement will be available.

NOTE: Doctoral and masters candidates carry hoods on left arm rather than wear them. At the proper time, each graduate will be hooded: doctoral candidates by his/her major professor; masters candidates by his/her dean. Baccalaureate candidates enter ceremony with tassels on right side of mortar board.

Candidates hold name cards visible for faculty marshals and proceed to chairs as directed. The first candidate in each college will start a new row. STAND until Dr. Shaffer asks you to be seated.

CONFERRING OF DEGREES - DOCTORAL FIRST - Rise as Dr. Shaffer requests; he will ask Dr. Wendler to confer; Dr. Castillo will invite the candidates forward. The marshals will lead the degree candidates and major professors forward to the stage. Dr. Castillo will be standing at the microphone. Hand name card to Dr. Castillo at the podium; walk and hand hood to major professor who will hood each doctor; receive diploma cover from Dr. Wendler; shake hands with dean and provost and return to your chair. When last doctor returns to chair, Dr. Shaffer will invite applause.

MASTERS - Rise as Dr. Shaffer requests; he will ask Dr. Wendler to confer; Dr. Castillo will invite your college forward. The marshals will lead the degree candidates forward to the stage. Dr. Castillo will be standing at the microphone. Hand name card to Dr. Castillo at the podium; walk and hand hood to dean who will hood each master; receive diploma cover from Dr. Wendler; shake hands with the provost and return to your chair. When last master returns to chair, Dr. Shaffer will invite applause.

BACHELORS – Rise as Dr. Shaffer requests; he will ask Dr. Wendler to confer; your dean will invite you forward. The marshals will lead the degree candidates forward to the stage. Dr. Castillo will be standing at the microphone. Hand the name card to Dr. Castillo at the podium; walk and receive diploma cover from Dr. Wendler; shake hands with the dean and provost and return to your chair. Remain standing until you are asked to be seated. When last baccalaureate returns to chair Dr. Shaffer will invite applause.

ALMA MATER - STAND - (words in program). When recessional music begins, marshals will direct the students to recess down the center aisle lined by the faculty.
