July 17, 2009 We got a thunderstorm last night and it cooled things down a little. What is it about boys and gutter water! It must be something about snails and puppy-dog tails. I didn't think moms would want to see pictures of their sons, though I can say that it seemed like they were having fun. Again, Dr. Teweleit sent me some band camp pictures. I'll try to identify them as best I can. This is Mrs. Bulloch and the junior high school honor band. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Oboe reedmaking. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() In spite of his devious grin, he was being supervised. ![]() Here is Mr. Lewis is directing the 1:45 pm tuba/euphonium class. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This is Mrs. Denney's classroom but I'm not sure what hour this is. If the drum major class is the next picture, then this is the second high school flute ensemble. ![]() ![]() Drum major class. ![]() WT's Dr. Brooks' theory class. ![]() ![]() The junior high school horn ensemble. ![]() ![]() This is the third high school percussion ensemble. They will perform at the 3 pm assembly on Tuesday, as will the second high school percussion ensemble (in case you're in the area). ![]() ![]() Mr. Carroll and the second high school percussion ensemble. ![]() ![]() Drum major class again, but this could be the 4:30 section. ![]() ![]() Nope. This is another picture of the 1:45 pm class. You can tell that the shadow on the left, which is north, is the same as the previous set though taken from a different location. That's my final answer and I'm sticking with it. This is the brass choir. It's the top brass players at the camp. I passed through there yesterday and they are sounding great. Their concert is next Wednesday, July 22, at 7 pm in Northen Recital Hall. ![]() ![]() This is from the Wednesday evening panel discussions. While the woodwinds were at Ms. Eiben's recital, the brass instruments had separate sections for their particular instrument. ![]() ![]() From Ms. Eiben's recital. ![]() ![]() The percussion panel discussion. ![]() ![]() The next group of pictures are from this morning. I asked the work crew to take pictures as they collected the attendance slips. If the pictures are better, it's because they took them. Don't worry. I'll get the camera back! This is Mrs. Cooley's junior high school symphonic band flutes. ![]() ![]() Mrs. Traughber and the JH symphonic band clarinets. ![]() ![]() Mr Gilley with the junior high school concert band woodwinds. (You can see the equipment set up for the dances in the evening. This is the best opportunity for you to see the equipment, because when I go there at night it's loud and dark (and supervised!). It scares me, so I don't go there at night. ![]() ![]() ![]() This is the junior high school symphonic band brass sectional. That's there first period. In the morning the students will have a full band rehearsal, they'll have a woodwind or brass/percussion sectional, and then a sectional for their instrument. Each band has it's own rotation and we use a staggered schedule so that eveyone isn't changing classes at the same time. ![]() ![]() Mrs. Fletcher is directing this
rehearsal.
![]() The junior high school concert band trumpets in Jarrett Lobby. ![]() Mr. Dixon and the concert band horns. ![]() ![]() Mr. Blanchard and the concert band tubas and euphoniums. ![]() ![]() This is still junior high, but this time it's the symphonic band saxophones. ![]() Mr. Nuckols and the concert band trombones. ![]() ![]() Mr. Cameron and the symphonic band bassoons. ![]() ![]() Mr. Elsner, marking the attendance sheet, and the concert band percussion section. ![]() ![]() I got the camera back, so lower your standards. I'm at the junior high school assembly in the Branding Iron Theatre/ There were three groups of twirlers. These are the Nimitz junior high school twirlers. ![]() Bowie Junior High School. ![]() I know better than to try to take a picture when the batons are spinning, but I did it anyway. ![]() Bonham Junior High School. (Sorry it isn't very clear. Somebody must have bumped me when I jerked the take-picture button.) ![]() There's a talent show tonight, so I'll try to add those pictures. The talent show was in the AC ballroom where the dance are held and they turned off the lights. Joe played an original composition. ![]() Samantha performed a dance she choreographed. ![]() Brandi sang. ![]() John solved three rubics cubes in less than 2 1/2 minutes. ![]() Morgan did a comedy routine. ![]() Tricia performed Bach's Toccata on the piano. ![]() Finally, there was "The Skit." ![]() Third place went to Samantha, second to John, and first to "The Skit." While the judges tabulated their scores, Mr. Kasper, the MC, showed a future movie trailer called "The Chair Test.' Campers have a chair test in the morning for the second week of camp. It was well done. ![]() |
