Tuesday, July 10

I'm on board. I'll try to make up for Sunday and Monday. There's another person who says he has pictures, but I'll need to transfer them to the site.

At 7:45 every morning we have several elective classes. The drum major class meets in the atrium of Northen Hall.

Here's a look from the balcony.

Another class is the breathing class taught by Mr. John Reimund. It's popular with brass players, but woodwinds can also benefit from this instruction.

Here' they're blowing paper airplanes at me to demonstrate piano (soft) dynamics.

Here they're blwoing paper airplanes the other way.

They were going to blow darts (quick bursts of air). When I heard what they were planning to do and that they were going to do it to me again, I decided to leave.

During the morning students have a 9 o'clock, 10 o'clock, and 11 o'clock classes. (The times vary slightly to accommodate different combinations of instruments.) One of the classes will be with like instruments. Here is the high school oboes. Another class (for the oboes) would be the woodwind sectional. And the third hour would be the full band rehearsal. Some students will start with full band. Others (like our oboe friends) start with the like instrument group.

Here are the junior high school concert band clarinets in Cousins ballroom.  They were taking a music quiz when I visited.

In Cousins lobby, the junior high school concert band flutes were rehearsing.

The junior high school concert band bassoons were rehearsing in Jarrett unit H. Next time I'll use a flash.

Junior high school varsity tubas and euphoniums were in Jarrett unit D. Here's the left side.

And the right side.

It was pretty busy taking attendance and getting the 1:45 required class rolls organized. At 7:00 pm, the campers could go to T*E*X*A*S, an outdoor musical. We took 485.

I'll try to get you some more pictures tomorrow.
