Academic Background


Biography

Robert Hansen serves as coordinator of the vocal department, teaches studio voice, vocal pedagogy,  song literature, diction and techniques for the singing actor. He has had post doctoral study at Cambridge University in England and at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. His principal teachers include Robert Gartside, Pattye Johnstone, Richard Miller, and Nigel Wickens.

He has performed numerous roles in musical theatre and opera, and has directed and/or produced over 60 full productions. He is listed in the International Who's Who in Music, is past president of the National Opera Association, is active in the National Association of Teachers of Singing, and is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, National Music Honorary Society. He was a WTAMU Presidential Teaching Fellow in 1996-97 and a recipient of WTAMU Faculty Development Grants in 1999 and 2003. He received WT's 2006 Teaching Excellence Award.

Dr. Hansen performs actively with the Amarillo Little Theatre, the Amarillo Opera, and Chamber Music Amarillo, in addition to performing recitals. He currently serves the National Opera Association as Executive Director.
