The Write Source provides links to a selection of different handbooks for different grade levels and writing abilities. Colorful and user-friendly!

A Writer's Reference: by Diana Hacker is one of the most user-friendly sites providing students with writing, research, and grammar exercises as well as sample papers and links to various style manuals. Students can log into the site, complete the exercises, and have the results emailed to their teachers.
The Grammar Handbook: This site is sponsored by the Writer's Workshop at the University of Ilinois, Urbana-Champaign and contains examples and rules for basic grammar and parts of speech. The site is easy to navigate, and is solely focused on grammatical rules and illustrations.
The Online Grammar Handbook: is filled with helpful links to other sites for help with the writing process, grammar illustrations and explanations, research, mechanics, and professional writing. Excellent source for supporting the writing process, dealing with writer's block, anxiety, and just getting started.
The Online Writing Center at Purdue offers grammar, spelling, and punctuation help in addition to serving as an online writing center for students from Purdue and elsewhere. This site has handouts which can be downloaded or printed from the site and used in the classroom.
The Guide to Grammar and Writing: is a website that is beneficial for teachers and students alike. The scope of this site ranges from word and sentence level issues to paragraph level issues to the essay as a whole. It includes grammar helps, dictionaries, other online resources, and quizzes to help students of all writing levels. The site is very clever with links for specific categories of grammar.
Researchpaper.com: is a handbook website from “Infonautics, Macmillan Publishing, and Purdue University which offers writing and research aids, references, and examples.” This site discusses formatting in MLA, APA, and ASA.
University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign Online Writing Guide: is supported by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. This grammar handbook “explains and illustrates the basic grammatical rules concerning parts of speech, phrases, clauses, sentences and sentence elements, and common problems of usage.”
Resources for Writers and Writing Instructors: offers links to many diverse style guides. This is a valuable source for teachers searching for a specific issue to discuss in the classroom. Also included is a link to a handbook that discusses grading techniques for instructors.
Guide to Grammar and Style: According to Jack Lynch, author of this online handbook, (available in hardback as well,) the articles discussed include usage, style, and mechanics. Grammar rules are explained and “subjective suggestions are made for making your writing clearer.”
Grammar Slammer: offers assistance in all grammar problems. Grammar Slammer is a “help file that goes beyond a grammar checker. Each link not only explains the grammar, but has explicit examples. This site not only offers grammar help, but has downloads, and speller slammer as well.
