Variable Star research at West Texas A&M University
Our optical
telescope and CCD will be used primarily to study cataclysmic
variables. These are binary star systems in which mass flows from one
star, usually forms a disk around its companion, and eventually falls
onto the surface of the secondary star. Variations in light intensity
from the stars and the disk can reveal a great deal about the nature of
these stars.
