Biography
Dr. Joe Ella Cansler is currently an Associate Professor of
Studio
Voice and serves as co- musical director
for musical theatre productions at West Texas A&M University in
Canyon, Texas. She completed her Ph.D. in Fine Arts with a
concentration in Vocal Performance at Texas Tech University having
graduated from West Texas State University with a Bachelor of Music
Education degree with all levels certification, and a Masters
Degree
in Vocal Performance. Dr Cansler has received many awards,
among them
five consecutive Best Actress and Outstanding Performance Awards.
She
teaches studio voice, musical theatre, and performance
empowerment/first impression master classes and seminars. She has
performed lecture recitals, chamber music, clinics and workshops all
over the world.
In March, 1996, she was named as a semi-finalist in the third
annual
American
Traditions competition in conjunction with the annual Savannah On-stage
International Arts Festival in Georgia. As a recipient of the Faculty
Development Grant in 1999, she performed and conducted in Italy and
Switzerland with the University of Sienna and in 2002 was Colloquium
Guest Professor and Grant Recipient with Western Carolina University.
As the past musical director of the Outdoor Drama Musical TEXAS, Dr.
Cansler worked with celebrated artistic directors auditioning,
casting, and producing professional theatre. She is an active member of
the
National Association of Teachers of Singing, the National Opera
Association,
Texas Music Educators Association, College Music Society and
Southeastern Theatre Conferences. Her performance credits
include classical recitals, Carousel, Camelot, Most Happy Fella,
Oklahoma,
Snow White, Trial by Jury, The Medium, La Boheme, and Faust.
