Simple Song - Step 2, Method

***METHOD A MELODY FIRST***

2A. Write a melody that has high points, metric, or agogic accents (duration) that is similar to the poetic line. Use balanced, four-measure phrasing. A good melody will have more steps that skips. A good melody will tend to have the shape of an arch over the course of the phrase. In a half cadence the melody will tend to end on re or sol. In an imperfect authentic cadence the melody will tend to end on mi.

***METHOD B HARMONY FIRST***

2B. Find a solid chord progression that has mostly one chord change per measure. Use balanced, four-measure phrasing. Then harmonize using SATB conventions.
