The first WTAMU student selected for the Fulbright Scholarship, Donna Raef, was an English Teaching Assistant in Baku, Azerbaijan for the 2011-2012 academic year. During her time in Azerbaijan, Donna conducted an oral history project with local residents and continue learning the Azeri language.
The Fulbright Program was established in 1946 under legislation introduced by then Senator J. William Fulbright of Arkansas. It is sponsored by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. State Department. The program aims to "increase mutual understanding between the peoples of the United States and other countries" through the exchange of persons, knowledge and skills. Currently, the program operates in more than 140 countries. It is open to U.S. citizens who will hold a Bachelor's degree by the start of the grant and are interested in studying, conducting research or teaching English abroad.

The US-UK Fulbright Commission is pleased to announce itsUK Summer Institutes at Newcastle University, Roehampton University London, and Cardiff, Bangor and Aberystwyth Universities in Wales. The four to five week cultural and academic programmes are open to graduates that are at least 18 years of age, and have completed no more than two years of University level study. The program is open to students in all fields of study.
The Summer Institutes grant will cover the majority of the participants' costs. This includes round-trip airfare from the US to the UK, tuition and fees at the University, accommodation and social programme, subsistence (e.g. food and drink) and visa processing.
