Examples and Formats AND What Now?...

Resist the urge to copy any of these - in whole or in part. First because you did not write them, second because they were not written about you and your unique history and third because thousands of people have access to these examples every year.

It is imperative that your individual resume be a unique representation of you - the knowledge, skills and abilities you possess and well as your educational, work and civic history.

Use these as a guide - an example - but replace the content with YOU!!

 

What NOW?

You will write your rough draft resume or edit your existing resume applying the concepts just covered. Feel free to go back to the table of contents and review any areas in which you are unclear.

Revise as needed Review the job description/vacancy notice and use this resume checklist to determine the effectiveness of your draft.

Complete this survey to let our office know that you completed this workshop! Doing so will allow you to come into the office during our resume review times for a one-on-one review of your resume. Note that if you do not complete this activity, we will not have verification that you went through the resume workshop and may ask that you do so again.  Click here to complete this verification.

Have your resume reviewed by a Career Services staff member. You are strongly encouraged to develop your resume based on the guidelines in this workshop before resubmitting it to us either in person or through the electronic portal. 

There are two ways to have your resume reviewed:

  1. In-person with a Career Services staff member, if your schedule permits. We offer these 15-minute sessions on a first come first served drop-in basis, every week on Tuesday and Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.

    Additional times may be available by appointment, if needed, and distance-only students who live more than 100 miles away from campus have the option of scheduling a 15-minute phone or video appointment review. Contact our office to set these up.

     
  2. You can send it to us electronically here. Note that it may take 4-5 working days to hear back from our staff after you've uploaded your resume... so if you need immediate feedback, you'll need to choose option #1 above. 

IF you are in a class that requires you to do a mock interview, note that you've completed step 1 in this process. Step 2 is to come to an in-person review. Note that an electronic review will not satisfy this mock interview requirement, you must come in person! Once you have completed an in-person review, you will be cleared to sign up for a mock interview.
