WTAMU to Host 11th Annual Roberson Counseling Seminar

CANYON, Texas—An executive panel of workforce and community experts will keynote West Texas A&M University’s 11th annual Roberson Counseling Seminar Friday, Oct. 5 on campus.

The seminar is conducted each year by the WTAMU Counselor Education Program in honor of Dr. Janice Roberson for her years of service to the University and to the development of the School Counseling Program at WTAMU. She retired in January 2003.
The one-day seminar, titled “Career Counseling: Connecting the Dots in your Local Community,” will run from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. in the Alumni Banquet Facility. Renee’ E. Burnam, director of Career and Employment Services at Amarillo College, will lead the panel of experts. Her presentation will focus on best practices related to the multifaceted services required in the field of career counseling.

Tips and Tricks to Resume Writing and Interviewing and Networking will be a showcased as well as strategies to help understand the individuals, communities, global economy and corporate worlds that we serve and collaborate with. Amy Stephens of WTAMU, Susan Regan and Trudy Banner of Amarillo College, Trent Morris of Panhandle Workforce Solutions, Elia Moreno of Cal Farley’s and Karyn Pierce of Amarillo Independent School District will join Burnam on the panel. Career and employment related barriers, resources, marketability, industry and internships also will be a focus at the seminar.

The growth seminar is designed for licensed professional counselors, school counselors, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, social workers, undergraduate and graduate students, clergy, healthcare professionals, educators and law enforcement officers. The preregistration deadline is Friday, Oct. 3, and the cost is $85 for counselors and other professionals (lunch and CEU’s included) and $35 for WTAMU students, faculty and staff (lunch included). Those registering after Oct. 3 will pay an additional $10.
