Students interested in putting stories on paper can sign up for a Basic Novel Writing course. Tim Lewis, a published playwright, will provide an overview for beginning writers from 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays March 23-April 27 in Old Main, Room 218. Topics will cover everything from researching ideas and character development to manuscript format and query letters. Cost of the course is $150, and the deadline to register is 5 p.m. March 16. Lewis has written more than 20 plays and musicals and three novels. He earned a bachelor’s degree in music education at Sam Houston State University and is a graduate of the Institute of Children’s Literature. He is co-founder of Old Tascosa Publishing and serves as an instructor and co-director of the annual West Texas A&M University Writers’ Academy. The Office of Continuing Education also will offer a Financial Workshop for Individual Investors from 7-9:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning April 22-May 20. The 12-hour course is designed for individual investors interested in learning more about setting financial and investment goals. Dan Shuman, a state and national licensed financial adviser for a national brokerage firm, will teach the class. Topics covered during the course of the class will include various bonds, insurance, estate planning, annuities, stocks retirement accounts and certificates of deposit. Cost of the class is $35 per person or $55 per couple. The deadline to register is 5 p.m. April 19.
