| March 3, 2010 COPY BY: Rana McDonald, 806-651-2129, rmcdonald@wtamu.edu WTAMU's Continuing Ed Adds New Classes to Spring Offerings CANYON, Texas—The Office of Continuing Education at West Texas A&M University has added two new classes to its spring roster, and one uses a green thumb and the other offers a challenge. “Herbs 101” is a five-week workshop designed to teach about the world of herbs. Linda Washington, a member of the Amarillo Herb Society, will teach the course and provide hands-on information on how to grow a herb garden. Topics will cover garden design and companion plants as well as care, harvesting and preserving. Classes will meet from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursdays, April 1-29. Cost is $50, and the deadline to register is 5 p.m. March 26. The Office of Continuing Education is also working with Adventure Experiences, Inc., to offer a “Level 1 Challenge Course Certification” program. Challenge course facilitators are in growing demand with camps, churches, training facilities and organizations. The five-day course will meet April 9-11 and April 17-18, and Steve Venable, a certified challenge course trainer, will teach the fundamental skills needed to facilitate most challenge courses. A written and practical test will be administered the final day of class. The program is limited to 10 participants. Cost is $450, and the deadline to register is April 1. Other spring classes offered by the Office of Continuing Education include a Basic Novel Writing course which meets 6-9 p.m. Tuesdays March 23-April 27 and a Financial Workshop for Individual Investors from 7-9:30 p.m. Thursdays beginning April 22-May 20. The spring Eternal Learning Series also is set to begin. Survey of Southwest Art will meet 10 a.m. Thursdays April 1-22 at Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. Classes offered at the Amarillo Center will be The Great Depression: The Worst Hard Time from 10:30-11:45 a.m. Wednesdays March 31-April 21 and Panhandle Local History from 9-10:15 a.m. Wednesdays March 31-April 21.
