WTAMU Opens Rodeo Season

CANYON, Texas—The West Texas A&M University men’s and women’s rodeo teams placed fourth and fifth, respectively in season-opening action Sept. 20-22 at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, N.M.
 

In men’s rodeo action, Trigger Roy, a junior finance major from Canyon, earned first place in the steer wrestling with a 4.40 in the long go and a 5.5 in the short go. R.H. Whitten, a senior agriculture major from Wilson, was second in the average in calf roping with a 9.4 long go and a 7.8 in the short go, and teammate Logan Dee Harkey, a junior pre-physical therapy major from Vernon, placed ninth in the average in calf roping with a 9.1 in the long go and 12.8 in the short go.
 

On the women’s side for WTAMU, Brittany Herring, a junior education major from Artesia, N.M., won fast time in breakaway roping with a 1.8 time and placed sixth in the average with a 12.1 in the short go.
 

The teams see their next action Sept. 27-29 at Sul Ross University.
