Women’s Day 2009. Mary Rose O’Reilly, award-winning poet and author, will be the featured speaker Thursday, March 5 for Women’s Day 2009 at West Texas A&M University.

An academic poster presentation will kick off the day’s activities from 11 a.m.-noon in the foyer of the Alumni Banquet Hall. O’Reilly will present “Living by Metaphor” at the 11:30 a.m. luncheon and join other writers for special readings from 2-3 p.m. in the Buffalo Room of the Alumni Banquet Facility.  

Plus, this year’s event includes a hands-on writers’ workshop from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday, March 6, in the Hazlewood Lecture Room of the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum. O’Reilly will lead the workshop, followed by a 4 p.m. reception and book signing. For more information about Women’s Day 2009, call 806-651-2641.

Tax help. Dr. Darlene Pulliam, McCray Professor of Business and professor of accounting at West Texas A&M University, and 25 of her accounting students will offer free tax help for low income and elderly individuals from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, March 5 and from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, March 7 at the Canyon Public Library. The WTAMU group will help prepare and e-file various tax forms and requests that those seeking assistance bring current year’s tax package or label, W-2 and 1099 forms, information for all deductions and credits, a copy of last year’s tax return, proof of account for direct deposit of refund, Social Security or individual taxpayer identification cards and proof of identification. Library hours. Cornette Library at West Texas A&M University will follow an abbreviated schedule during spring break. The library will be closed March 14-15 and open 7:45 a.m.-5 p.m. March 16-20. It will be closed Saturday, March 21 and open 6-11 p.m. Sunday, March 22. Regular spring hours will resume Monday, March 23.

Spring break. Monday, March 16 marks the first day of spring break for students at West Texas A&M University. The University will remain open through Tuesday, March 17. University offices will be closed March 18-20. All activities will resume Monday, March 23.
