WTAMU Named Recipient of Student Leadership Award

CANYON, Texas—Angelica Pallares, a graduate student in the Master of Professional Accounting program at West Texas A&M University, is the recipient of a $10,000 Jorge Caballero Student Leadership Award sponsored by Deloitte LLP and the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU). Pallares will receive the award from Caballero at a conference in Washington, D.C., in October.

The award recognizes high-achieving Hispanic accounting students who have demonstrated leadership qualities through academics and community involvement. Candidates must be an accounting major enrolled full time at a four-year college or university and classified as a junior, senior or graduate student. They must carry a GPA of 3.5 or higher to be eligible for the award.

As a recipient of the leadership award, HACU and Deloitte gave Pallares the opportunity to interview for a position with Deloitte LLP in Houston. She received an offer to join the firm in its tax consulting area following her graduation in May.

Pallares has served as the administration and financial officer for WTAMU’s Students in Free Enterprise for the past three years.
