| Jan. 23, 2012 COPY BY: Rana McDonald, 806-651-2129, rmcdonald@wtamu.edu WTAMU Livestock Team Opens Season with Fifth-Place Finish CANYON, Texas—The West Texas A&M University livestock judging team opened its 2012 season with a fifth-place overall finish at the National Western Stock Show Jan. 12-13 in Denver, Colo. The national show brings exhibitors from all over the United States to compete. This year’s event had 28 collegiate teams competing in the judging phase of the stock show. The WTAMU team placed sixth in swine, sixth in sheep and goats, 10th in cattle, seventh in reasons and fifth overall. WTAMU followed Texas A&M University at first, Oklahoma State University, second, Iowa State University, third, and Texas Tech University, fourth. In individual placings, WTAMU’s Jeff Long, a junior animal science major from Vernal, Utah, was forth in sheep and 11th overall. Teammate Taylor Eurich, a junior animal science major from Keenesburg, Colo., was named 10th high individual in swine. “I am extremely proud of my team and their performance in Denver,” Marcus Arnold, livestock judging coach, said. “They are a great group of kids, and I’m real excited to see what this judging season has in store for us.” The seven-member team will compete throughout the spring semester with events at the Southwestern Livestock Exposition Intercollegiate Judging Contest in Fort Worth, the San Antonio Stock Show Livestock Judging Contest and at Houston’s annual Livestock Show and Rodeo Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Contest. WTAMU livestock judging team members are listed by hometown, classification and major.
