WTAMU Jazz Bands to Join Jeff Coffin and The Mu’tet in Concert
CANYON, Texas—It will be an evening of great music when the West Texas A&M University jazz program presents Grammy-winning jazz artist Jeff Coffin and his all-star band The Mu’tet in concert at 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17 at the Globe-News Center for the Performing Arts.
Coffin, sax player with the Dave Matthews Band, and Mu’tet members Felix Pastorius, electric bass, Bill Fanning, trumpet, Chris Walters, piano, and Roy “Futureman” Wooten, drums, will work with WTAMU students in master classes Jan. 15-17 before closing their visit with the concert.
The evening concert will open with the WT jazz band performing three numbers, including “Tall and Lanky” featuring Coffin. The sax player and his all-star band will then take to the stage for a program of works ranging in musical styles from funk, jazz and folk to African, New Orlean, rock and fusion.

When he’s not on tour with the Dave Matthews Band, Coffin can be found performing with his group the Mu’tet. He is a graduate of the University of North Texas and internationally known as a saxophonist, band leader, composer and educator.
