WTAMU Forensics Team Finishes Third Overall at Tournament

 

CANYON, Texas—The West Texas A&M University forensics team earned a third-place overall finish at the Hill Country Tournament Sept. 23-24 in San Marcos. The WTAMU team competed against three of the top 10 competitive speech schools in the country.

On Saturday, Sept. 23, Carlos Perez, a senior from Olton, and Bailey McClure, a freshman from Canyon, placed fifth in duo interpretation, and Belle Elliott a sophomore from Odessa, and Corrie Allen, a freshman from Canyon, placed sixth. Perez also competed in prose interpretation, earning a fourth-place finish, and program oral interpretation with a sixth-place finish. Senior Caroline Vick, a senior from Abernathy, finished sixth in persuasive speaking.    

On Sunday, Sept. 24, the Buffs competed in five events throughout the day. Vick placed seventh in informative interpretation and fifth in persuasive speaking. McClure took home a fifth place in prose interpretation. In the Duo Interpretation, McClure and Perez placed fourth followed by Drew Dunn, a senior from Sundown, and Teri Burnett, a freshman from Nazareth, at fifth. The team wrapped up the tournament in program oral interpretation with Perez earning fourth place and Elliott in 6th place.
