WTAMU Forensics Team Competes at Cameron University


CANYON, Texas—The West Texas A&M University forensics team competed in a two-day tournament at Cameron University in Lawton, Okla., bringing home a second-place overall sweepstakes from the Saturday, Dec. 2 event.

In the Saturday competition, freshmen Josiah Atkinson of Beaumont earned first place and top novice in extemporaneous speaking. Teammate Ryan Clark of Amarillo, also a freshman, placed fifth in after-dinner speaking and third in program oral interpretation. Senior Caroline Vick of Abernathy placed fourth in communication analysis. In the duo interpretation competition, sophomore Belle Elliot of Odessa placed third with freshman Corrie Allen of Canyon and fourth with Clark. Elliott also competed in dramatic interpretation and placed fifth. Allen placed fourth in poetry and senior Drew Dunn of Sundown placed second and third in prose.

The competition continued on Sunday, Dec. 3 with Atkinson placing fifth in persuasive speaking and after-dinner speaking and fourth in informative speaking. This earned him second place in individual sweepstakes competition. Clark placed third in after-dinner speaking and fifth in program oral interpretation. Allen finished in fourth in poetry.
