| Feb. 8, 2010 COPY BY: Rhonda Dittfurth, outreach coordinator, 806-651-2510, rdittfurth@wtamu.edu WTAMU Accepting Applications for Summer Engineering Camp CANYON, Texas—The Department of Engineering and Computer Science at West Texas A&M University is accepting applications for its annual Summer Engineering Camp set for June 13-18 for students ages 14 years and older. Admission to the camp is free to students selected, however there is a $10 non-refundable application fee for anyone interested in attending. “We are very excited about offering our annual summer engineering camp and grateful that we are going to be able to offer it free again this year,” Rhonda Dittfurth, outreach coordinator for the department, said. “In 2009 we had more than 250 applications for a limited number of spots, so this year we are charging a $10 application fee to help with the processing and evaluation of applicants.” Those interested in attending the camp will need to submit a 50- to 150-word essay on the subject of “Why I want to attend engineering camp” along with a recommendation letter, the camp application and the application fee. The camp application form is available online at www.wtamu.edu/academics/2010-engineering-camp.aspx. Enrollment is limited and a high priority will be placed on applications received early. The postmark deadline for submitting an application is April 1, and those accepted will be notified by mail. Selected students will have until May 14 to confirm their acceptance. Students will be housed on the WTAMU campus for the week and will experience a variety of engineering activities and learning opportunities. Any students who would like to learn more about engineering should consider applying for this opportunity. New to the 2010 camp will be the awarding of scholarships for selected campers that plan to attend WTAMU and major in engineering.
