Vietnamese Student Association to Host 2013 Moon Festival

CANYON, Texas—West Texas A&M University’s Vietnamese Student Association (VSA) invites the University community to an evening of music, games and food at its annual Moon Festival from 8-10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20 at the Baptist Student Ministry, 2500 4th Ave. in Canyon.

The event is designed to share information about the Vietnamese people and their culture. WTAMU is home to several Vietnamese students, and this year’s event will showcase their country’s music, dance, costumes and food through the traditional festival. The group hosted its first festival at WTAMU in 2011.

In Vietnam, the Moon Festival is the day children dress in new clothes and go around the streets carrying lanterns lighted with candles. Farmers also fly lanterns to wish for good crops while families gather for celebrations and fun.

For more information about the event, contact Luat Tran, association president, at 806-283-2959 or Lien Le, communication coordinator, at 806-683-5304.
