Each year WTAMU’s Department of Information and Decision Management (IDM) selects a group of outstanding IDM students to participate in an excursion. The annual trip recognizes and rewards exceptional students and exposes them to the corporate environment and professional culture. The trip also gives the department an opportunity to showcase its best and brightest to potential recruiters with the goal of building relationships to benefit everyone involved. The 2009 excursion took the students on a tour of the Hewlett Packard Server manufacturing facility, where they observed each phase of the manufacturing process from initiation to testing and shipping. The tour gave them a firsthand look at implementations of several best practices learned in the classroom such as sourcing, workflow management, safety and static control and system testing. The WTAMU students also toured the Johnson Space Center to see the technologies they learn about in the classroom applied at a high tech level. Faculty members who helped make the trip possible are Dr. Amjad Abdullat, head of the Department of Information and Decision Management, Dr. Christopher Furner, assistant professor of information and decision management, and April Martin, departmental secretary.
