Phil Vassar Headlines WTAMU Homecoming Concert

Ticket Sales Begin Monday, Sept. 8

CANYON, Texas—Country’s leading piano man will rock the First United Bank Center at the 2008 Homecoming Concert at West Texas A&M University.

Phil Vassar will headline the dance concert at 10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, following the WTAMU Homecoming Football Game against Midwestern State in a 6 p.m. match up at Kimbrough Memorial Stadium. Kellie Pickler, an American Idol finalist from season five, will be the concert’s opening act.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 8 for $25, $35, $45 and $55 each. All WTAMU students who present a valid Buff Gold Card will receive a $15 discount provided they purchase their ticket at the First United Bank Center. Non-discounted tickets will be available at Panhandle Ticket outlets or online at www.panhandletickets.com

Virginia-born Vassar is a singer, songwriter and musician who moved to Nashville and worked the local clubs playing the piano. He made a name for himself first as a songwriter, penning hits for Alan Jackson, Tim McGraw, Jo Dee Messina and BlackHawk. Vassar got his own chance to share his music with his first self-titled album in 2000. He now has five studio albums to his credit along with a list of hits that include “Just Another Day in Paradise,” “Six-Pack Summer,” and “Love is a Beautiful Thing.”

Pickler made it to the top six of the finals in season five of American Idol, but being voted off didn’t stop this North Carolina native. In 2006 Pickler signed with 19 Recordings/BNA Records and hit the country charts with such songs as “Red High Heels,” and “I Wonder.” She’s toured with Brad Paisley and her most recent release is “Don’t You Know You’re Beautiful.”

The ticket office at WTAMU’s First United Bank Center is open 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information, contact Misty Hobbs at 806-651-1400.
