Participants Needed for WTAMU Professor’s Survey on Confederacy Issues

CANYON, Texas—Dr. Dave Rausch is interested in what people are thinking when it comes to national and local issues. In fact, Rausch, Teel Bivins Professor of Political Science at West Texas A&M University, is so interested that he’s conducting a survey with references to the Confederacy, statues and school names.Dr. Dave Rausch

The public survey can be found at https://wtamuuw.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_5BYvxmOALq7kI2p or on Rausch’s WTAMU webpage at http://www.wtamu.edu/~jrausch/ and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. Participants, who remain anonymous, are asked a series of multiple-choice questions ranging from how Trump is doing as president to if the statue in Ellwood Park should be removed. Some questions also give participants an opportunity to expound on their answers. The survey will be available through Sept. 30.

“As a political scientist, I’m always interested in how people think about political and public policy issues,” Rausch said. “I haven’t conducted a poll of Amarillo-area residents in a while, and this one asks about some controversial public policy issues.”

When completed, Rausch said he will share the data with students in his classes and show how he wrote the questions that provided the data. Papers for presentations and publications are also planned, and Rausch said the data will be available to the Amarillo City Council and the Amarillo Independent School District Board of Trustees as well.

“If the data help advance a solution to public policy issues, that’s an even better result,” he said.

For more information, contact Rausch at 806-651-2423 or jrausch@wtamu.
