WTAMU Symphony Orchestra’s Live Cinema Concert to Premiere Original Score for Phantom of the Opera
The West Texas A&M University Symphony Orchestra will once again combine the magic of live cinema with the premiere of an original score in its presentation of the 1929 silent film The Phantom of the Opera at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30 at the Globe-News Center for Performing Arts in Amarillo.
The orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Mark Bartley, assistant professor of music, will perform the musical score, composed by Dr. B.J. Brooks, assistant professor of music, while the film, starring Lon Chaney, plays on the wide screen. This is the second time Bartley has premiered one of Brooks’ original works. Brooks composed the score for the 2009 live cinema concert of Charlie Chaplin’s The Kid.
The WTAMU Symphony Orchestra performs a live cinema concert every year, and this year’s presentation will mark a first-time performance in Amarillo. Tickets, priced at $7 for general admission, are available through Panhandle Tickets at 806-378-3096 or at panhandletickets.com. Those with a Buff Gold Card can get a free ticket through the Civic Center Box Office at 806-378-3096.
