Aug. 11—The WTAMU campus-wide orientation for Graduate Assistants (GA) and Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTA) is planned from 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday, Aug. 11 in the Sybil B. Harrington Fine Arts Complex, Room 185. The orientation is a requirement for all those serving as GA’s for the first time during 2009-2010. A panel of award-winning WTAMU professors will discuss the role of GA’s and offer teaching tips. Information also will cover WTAMU’s common reader, the library and using WTClass. Aug. 17
—WTAMU will host its annual Faculty/Staff Convocation at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17 in Mary Moody Northen Recital Hall. President J. Patrick O’Brien will address the University community, new employees will be introduced and award winners will be announced. A reception will immediately follow in the Grand Lobby of the Sybil B. Harrington Fine Arts Complex.

Aug. 20—The summer’s final Transfer Orientation begins at 8 a.m. in the Virgil Henson Activities Center Ballroom and ends with campus tours at 3:30 p.m. Transfer Orientations are one-day events designed to welcome students transferring to WTAMU. For more information, visit wtamu.edu/tso.

Summer Nights at Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum offers extended hours until 9 p.m. for those who can’t come during the day. Free ice cream to the first 250 people in the Derrick Room after 6 p.m. For more information, visit panhandleplains.org.

Aug. 21-22—Buff Branding is an annual overnight orientation to Ceta Canyon for students new to the WTAMU. Buses will leave campus from the Pedestrian Mall around noon on Aug. 21 and return the following afternoon.

Aug. 24—Fall Classes Begin

The Classroom Center Grand Re-opening will be celebrated from 5:30-7 p.m. with special speakers, tours and refreshments. Everyone is invited to attend.

—Lady Buff Soccer vs. New Mexico Highlands, 3 p.m., Soccer Pitch

WTAMU freshmen will meet at 5:30 p.m. at the Virgil Henson Activities Center and walk to the President’s Home for the annual Freshman Cookout.
