Fine Arts Events Fill April Calendar
Everything from art, music and theatre can be found at West Texas A&M University during the month of April.
The annual Amarillo College/West Texas A&M University Student Faculty Art Show runs April 9-May 2 at the Amarillo Museum of Art in Amarillo. Works by students and faculty at both AC and WTAMU will be featured. Gallery talks begin at 6 p.m. Friday, April 9, followed by a reception from 7-8:30 p.m. For more information, visit www.amarilloart.org.
Students and faculty in the Department of Music will celebrate the 30th annual Showcase of Music at 8 p.m. Friday, April 9 at the Amarillo Civic Center Auditorium. This year’s event will feature more than 200 students and faculty members performing in at least one of the 19 different numbers scheduled for the two-hour concert. Tickets for the event, priced at $10 for adults and $5 for students, are available at the WTAMU music office in the Sybil B. Harrington Fine Arts Complex, Room 202, at Tarpley’s Music in Amarillo or at the door the night of the performance.
The University will close out its theatre season with a play about power, politics and corruption in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui at 7:30 p.m. April 15-17 and April 21-24 on the stage of the Happy State Bank Studio Theatre on campus. Royal Brantley, head of the Department of Art, Theatre and Dance, will direct this black comedy written by Bertolt Brecht.
